Indian Classical Music Level 4 -Carnatic

Course Description
Students will be introduced to Melsthayi Varishas and Mantra Sthayi Varishas (Base Octave). They will also learn an important lesson in Carnatic Music: the Sapta Tala Alankarams. Alankaras are aesthetically composed groups of swara phrases set to each of the Suladi Sapta Talas. The student will learn to sing varisais (patterns) in 7 different talams and understand the important concept of Jaathi. A brief theory on the concept of Gamakas will also be introduced. Objectives: 1. Learn the Sapta Tala Alankarams and understand the concept of Jaathi. 2. Master all 7 Alankarams in three different speeds with Tala. 3. Learn to sing in both upper and base voices. 4. Develop a deep understanding of voice modulation. Topics Covered Sapta Tala Alankarams in Mayamalavagowla; * Chaturasra Dhruva Talam * Chaturasra Matya Talam * Chaturasra Roopaka Talam * Misra Jhampa Talam * Tisra Triputa Talam * Khanda Ata Talam * Chaturasra Eka Talam Taart Sthayi Swaras, speed 1,2 & 3. Mantra Sthayi Swaras speed 1, 2 & 3 Bhajans Patriotic Songs. Theory about different Thaalas, high pitch, low pitch & spiritual side of lessons. The outcomes for the course are - 1. Sing all Alankarams at different speeds. 2. Sing different Sthayis at various speeds. 3. Understand how to sing with emotion and expression. 4. Perform with melody and rhythm.
